Nifti shares views on the geopolitical significance of  Nordstream 2, Turkstream, and the Southern Gas Corridor WASHINGTON, D.C.—TODAY, Efgan Nifti, Executive Director and Board Member of the Caspian Policy Center, testified before the Helsinki Commission. Nifti and his fellow panelists offered their expertise on the geopolitical significance of European pipeline projects, particularly Nordstream 2, Turkstream, and the Southern Gas Corridor. Caspian Gas an Alternative Supply to Europe Mr. Nifti spoke about the importance of elevating gas from the Caspian region as an alternative supply to Europe. Projects like the Southern Gas Corridor have the potential to help diversify European energy supplies and decrease reliance on Russia.

“We should take advantage of the resources flowing from East to West,” he told the commission.

He was joined by Ed Chow, Senior Associate (Non-Resident) in the Energy and National Security Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies; David Koranyi, Senior Fellow in Energy Diplomacy at the Atlantic Council; and Colin Cleary, Director for Energy Diplomacy for Europe, Western Hemisphere, and Africa at the U.S. Department of State. The discussion was moderated by Danica Starks, Senior Policy Advisor at the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe.
