After establishing independence in 1991, Armenia experienced a rapid population decline between 1991 and 1996, decreasing from 3,574,500 to 3,248,800. This population decline continued, at a more steady rate, between 1996 and 2023, from 3,248,800 to 2,979,200 in 2023, and overall decrease of 16.7% since 1991.
